SBHA Engages with Young People in the Scottish Borders

Communication Skills Workshops at Hawick High School

Last week, Carole Pritchard (HR Business Partner), Louise McNeilage (Tenant & Community Engagement Facilitator), and Alex Rogerson (Tenant Engagement Assistant) from SBHA visited Hawick High School. They ran engaging communication skills workshops as part of the S5 and S6 induction days, aiming to equip the pupils with essential skills for effective communication.

Pupils participated in an interactive role-playing challenge where they were stranded on a raft in the sea, attempting to reach a nearby desert island. Using limited resources, teams had to navigate obstacles and make group decisions under time constraints. The exercise required effective use of all forms of communication to ensure successful team collaboration and problem-solving.

The pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork and communication throughout the challenge, successfully completing the tasks and ensuring their “rescue” from the desert island. This hands-on approach helped reinforce their understanding of the different communication types and their practical applications.

The workshops at Hawick High School were a great success, highlighting the importance of communication skills in real-life and hypothetical scenarios. SBHA is committed to engaging with and supporting young people in the Scottish Borders, helping them develop essential life skills for their future endeavours.
